Our Foundation and Structure
ACEN was founded in 2016 by circular economy experts who saw the need that Africa is also represented in global discussion around a green transition that goes beyond merely resource efficiency but also speaks about the unlocking of socio-economic opportunities. ACEN has to thank its many volunteers that have dedicated their precious time in growing the network since its foundation, without them the network would have not reached its size and reach. Even though ACEN can showcase many success stories we require support from our members and partners to reach our vision.
As a registered NPC in South Africa, ACEN has a board of directors (executive and non-executive directors) and is guided by an Advisory Board made up of circular economy experts from across the continent. On a daily basis ACEN is run by an operational team which reports back to the Board of Directors on the different organisational matters. The Chapter Leads are instrumental in bringing together ACEN’s members within a country and are key contact points of each country ongoing circular economy initiatives.
