World Circular Economy Forum 2023 (WCEF2023)

ACEN made substantial contributions to WCEF2023 through diverse initiatives and engagements. Firstly, showcasing regenerative agricultural practices by African subsistence farmers, addressing export requirements. Additionally, highlighting two South African businesses using dehydration methods to support low-income communities and create health supplements for higher-income groups. Furthermore, ACEN’s directors and members participated in circular economy hotspot discussions, emphasizing the pivotal role of Hubs in advancing the circular economy globally, building on reflections from WCEF2022.

We also organized a side event on the circular economy in the built environment, emphasizing the importance of the Global South and Africa in the transition. ACEN collaborated with various organizations in a roundtable discussing the Global South’s role in a global circular transition, recognizing its significance. Moreover, in collaboration with ACEA, ACEN organized an accelerator session titled “African Voices – Showcasing Circular Economy Ambition in Africa,” addressing topics like circular food systems and resource efficiency.
